I did not cook lunch yesterday as I went to a friend’s place to pick up something. Initially I wanted to go before fetching Darrius but Baby G fell asleep so I did not want to disturb her from her sweet slumber (it was so difficult to put her to nap since her flu started!). Thought I’ll just prepare something for Darrius to be eaten during our journey there as it takes about 20 minutes to arrive.
It was a simple dual colors bread meat floss sandwiches. I bought another loaf of the chocolate raisin bread since it tasted so good. Then I added the balanced butterscotch bread so there are some colors in the box. Gave him 2 pieces of the heart shape chicken nuggets and 2 cherry tomatoes… and voila! 😀 Love the new faces picks on the chicken nuggets… so cute! Got them from J-Mama too.
Ended up he did not want to eat it on the way there but on the way home!
While I was preparing the bento for Darrius, it prompted me to make another 2 sets for my friend’s kids thinking it was lunch time… or maybe they can have them for snack later in the afternoon.
I put in 3 pieces of chicken nuggets into each box with 2 sets of chocolate raisin bread with meat floss sandwiches, 2 cherry tomatoes skewered to a pick and as a treat, a nougat each. Not sure if the kids like their bento as according to their mom, they are not used to new food! 😀
And my dear friend was so nice to give this little shrug which she knitted for Baby G. I am going to put on for her when we are in Melbourne later this weekend! 😀
Since I have some extra rice from the onigiri bento I made for Darrius yesterday, I decided to use the balance to make a bento for myself for dinner! Came across these triangular shape onigiri from some where, some Japanese characters if I’m not mistaken, so thought I’ll try to make them just for fun. 😀
I was searching up and down in my many boxes but can’t find a triangle rice mold! So, I molded them free-hand instead! You can see their thickness varies!
It was not so easy to mold rice into triangular shape compared to just doing the regular round balls. I have problem controlling the amount of rice to get a standard size so I just make do! 😀 Decorated them with nori.
In the box, there are some oyster sauce chicken wings, some steamed pork with fermented soy beans, some pearl corn strips, broccoli, cherry tomato and some strawberries.
The thing was, I felt funny eating them! 😆 Maybe I’m not used to eating cute looking stuff! Anyway, I will do more in the future if time permits!
I was really busy yesterday and do not get a chance to post up any bentos. Baby G was a little cranky (she still is now!) as she caught the flu bugs from Darrius. I guess her blocked nose is causing her to be really cranky and seeking more attention than normal days. She also refused to nap for long so I have been running here and there the entire day yesterday.
There was no bento for Darrius to bring to school since he told me he don’t want any. Therefore, I try to pack his lunch or dinner in the bento box just so he still can see his cutesy meals at home…
After of not making any onigiri for a long time, I attempted again yesterday after steaming some Japanese rice for the purpose. Made 2 characters out of it (queen & girl?) with details from nori and dabs of ketchup on their cheeks.
I gave him a pan fried oyster sauce drummet, a portion of pearl corn some strawberries, broccoli and a cherry tomato. On top of that, he gets a bowl of lotus root soup too which was not in the picture.
He was delighted to see his bento and immediately said he was hungry! He only managed to finish one of the onigiri but cleared the rest of the items in the box. I even added another piece of drummet for him when he was half way through… 😀
These few days will be hectic for me as I need to seriously start packing for our trip DownUnder! Our flight is leaving this Friday evening and all my stuff are still lying around half packed!
Hope all of you have fun bento-ing!!!!
Good Monday everyone! 😀
Last weekend just flashed by in a blink of the eye…. so much to do but so little time! I did not get to do any bento last Friday as Baby G was a little cranky and since hubby was on half day, I have to cook a heavy lunch so no time for anything else.
I went to the wet market yesterday and saw some meat floss on sale. Then an idea came to my head… Darrius loves meat floss so maybe it is a good idea to put them in his bento so he’ll eat! So, I bought a small packet of about 100g to try. At night, before I tuck Darrius in, I told him I’ll make him some meat floss with mayonnaise sandwiches for him to bring to school and he was delighted upon hearing that. Then I asked him what shapes he wanted his sandwiches to be?
I have wanted to fry some of those heart nuggets for him too but this morning Baby G woke up when hubby’s alarm went off so I spent some time patting her back to sleep so I have less time for bento. Instead, I steamed some chicken cocktails and cut into heart shape as replacement.
I spread some mayonnaise on the bottom slice of bread before putting the meat floss and covered with another slice on top and sealed it using the side of the heart’s cutter. Today’s bread was butter scotch which is a little sweet and fragrant which goes very well with the meat floss…
Added some strawberries and 2 gummy hearts as treat to complete the box. This is a speedy bento too! Took me about 15 minutes to kau-tim! 😛
Again, I did not pack any bento for Darrius this morning since he told me he don’t want any the night before. Well, it is a good thing too as I don’t have to rush like mad each morning now. I think I will only pack for him on Monday since he only gets a cup of Milo and some biscuits according to his class teacher.
I went to meet a friend later on in the morning so I don’t have time to cook. Since I will go and fetch Darrius directly after my appointment, I decided to pack him some sandwiches before I leave home.
Using my newest ‘chocolate’ bento box for the first time which was a gift from another bento friend. You know who you are! 😀 Coincidentally, I used the chocolate raising bread to make the chicken ham sandwiches which fit nicely in the box! The box is deep enough which is a nother good thing as the lid will not press against the lettuce when I close the box!
Added some Korean strawberries and some oranges to complete his meal. As a treat, he gets another bottle of Vitagen too (to bribe him so he will finish everything!) 😀
Just in case you don’t know yet, Hapa Bento has partnered up with Japanistic to organize a Garden Bento contest. So, if you are inspired… do send in your bento for a chance to win some cool prizes!
That’s all for today… have a happy bento day! 🙂
