Bento Fun #282 – Boy’s Day Bento

Tomorrow is the D-day! Packing is almost 90% done and we’ll be flying off to Lion City tomorrow. Gonna have a few hours of transit before our next flight. πŸ™‚ This is our first vacation for 2011 and also our very first trip tagging along hubby’s biz trip to a foreign land.

Since tomorrow is Wesak Day, it will be a public holiday here. Though Darrius’s kindy will have their mid-year exam this week, I have requested that he completes them before the trip so the teacher tested him all 4 papers last Friday! O.o Initially, I have wanted him to have just 2 papers last Friday and 2 papers today… oh well! He did quite ok though he can definitely do better if not because of the squeezedΒ time.

So, this morning I made my last bento before the school holiday which will start next weekend while we are still away. It is a little late for this theme but I was adamant to at least make one after wanting to make this theme for quite a while.

Baby was down with fever last weekend so hubby’s aunt popped by for a visit and brought the kids some milk buns which I’ve used for making the boy. I spread some mayo and stuck those nori strips for the hair. I also folded a Samurai hat using some origami paper. For details meaning of Boy’s Day or Children’s Day in Japan check it out here.

I used 2 chicken cocktails to make the carps. Too bad I can’t dye them in colors else they will look cuter as I am already running late. I added some broiled broccoli, some green seedless grapes with blueberries, some edamame skewers, cherry tomatoes and broiled carrot sakura.

Today is Teacher’s Day here but Darrius’s school is not celebrating so I told him to at least wish his class teacher a Happy Teacher’s Day when he reached his class this morning.

That’s all for today and I’m looking forward to tomorrow as I’ll be meeting up with some bento mamas in Lion City! πŸ˜‰

Bento Fun #281 – SPOTTY the DOG

Good Morning all!

After a few days of ‘baking’ in the oven, Penang finally has a good down pour this morning. Feeling so cool and refreshed now!!! The past few days have been terrible. It was so HOT that even after taking shower, we were all drenched in sweat! What make it even worst is, it get sticky and itchy too! So glad that the rain came…

Yesterday, before we went to fetch the hubby from the airport, we popped by QBM for lunch and did some grocery shopping. It was sad to know that Korean strawberries are no longer in season but I was in for another surprise… found some Jumbo blueberries instead!!! πŸ˜€ These berries were from Spain and was imported by the same company that brought in those sweet Korean strawberries.

Today Darrius gets a triple layers raisin toast with cheese cut into the shape of a dog. I’ve used one blueberry as the nose for the dog and used the bread crust to make the spot for the eye. There’s a jumbo strawberry with 3 skewers of jumbo blueberries and some green seedless grapes too.

That’s all for today as I have to continue with my other ‘projects’ before the trip. πŸ™‚ I’m going to add this to WFLW over at Shannon’s. Have you added yours yet?

Hope all of you have fun bento-ing!

Bento Fun #280 – Floating Balloons Snack Box

Hello everyone!

So happy that it is already mid week! Hubby will be home from Bangkok today after ‘escaping’ for 3 days πŸ˜› The past 3 days were much better as Baby G can sleep slightly better than previous weeks. Though she still wakes up in the night but I managed to ‘threaten’ her to go back to sleep without giving her any boobies fix! Some achievement there but she will still ask for her fixes during the day. Well, I just wish she will wean off from night feeds and sleep through out soon… keeping fingers crossed! πŸ˜€

I only pack very simple bento for Darrius the past few days as I was a little uninspired sue to having too many things on my mind as well as TO-DO list.

Yesterday Darrius asked for cherry tomatoes with the balloon picks so I fulfilled his request…

Nothing fancy today as well as I am already trying to clear my fridge since we’ll be flying off next week. Also, I’m not so inspired… remember? πŸ˜† Pan fried some chicken nuggets for protein and added some green seedless grapes, two cherry tomatoes with the balloon picks and a Baronia nougat as treat to fill up the box.

So, why am I so uninspired lately????

Hehehe… those were the reasons! I have a few projects on hand so my mind was not into bento. We’ll be visiting the Magic Kingdom and thought I could save a few bucks by making those ear hats myself since my latest obsession is felting! πŸ˜€

That’s about it for today… hope everyone has fun bento-ing! πŸ˜€

Bento Fun #279 – A Hearty Bento

Good’ay all!

For those who celebrated Labor Day, how was your long weekend? We took the opportunity to have a short getaway in KL and spent some time with my family. Though everyone enjoyed (especially the feasting part) but I suffered quite a bit since baby was rather cranky on most nights causing me to lose sleep. On average I only get to sleep less than 3 hours each night for that 3 nights we were there.

I was so tired when we returned yesterday and thus, did not make any bento for Darrius. This was a bento I made on last Thursday but was too busy to post up. I am still having a very tired brain… but I do hope to make something tomorrow.

I bought another new pocket sammy maker… this time was the one that can make a big heart! πŸ˜› I just can’t resist buying gadgets… heh! If you’ve noticed, I finally got the Shinkansen bento box too which a dear friend helped me get during her recent visit to Hong Kong. Thanks Jacss! πŸ˜€

It was a heart pocket sammy filled with meat floss and mayo and to make it less plain, I cut another small heart from the bread crust to give it more colors. There are some strawberries and green seedless grapes to complete the box. Very simple. πŸ™‚
