Bento Fun #345 – Beary Valentine’s Buns Bento

How was your Valentine’s Day celebration? It is just another day for us here as the hubby is not the romantic sort πŸ˜›

However, that does not mean I can’t be all lovey dovey! I made these for Darrius’s lunch box and he was so happy he finished everything!

These beary buns are filled with fish cocktails which is a hit with the kids. Glennedine did not have class so I only need to prepare one.

And I prepared these little cupcakes for Darrius’s class teachers…

Bento Fun #305 – Valentine’s Bento

Happy Valentine’s everyone!

It is not a tradition for my family to celebrate this day so I’ll just do it for fun. πŸ˜€ So, are you doing anything special with your other half or with your family and friends? Today, my hubby has to attend a course and won’t be home till dinner so I’m home with the girl only since Darrius is away in school. Probably will bring the girl for shopping later… if I’m up to it! πŸ˜›

Today, I prepared rice for both the men in the house since they have to go ‘studying’! πŸ˜†

.

.

Cooked some pan-grilled chicken and some meatballs to go with the rice. There are some Romanian cherry tomatoes halves which I tried to make it look like a heart… Gave him a LCM bar and a nectarine for morning break which he requested. Don’t want to give him too many items else he will sure can’t finish since he wants to play during his breaks.

As for the hubby, this is the first time he brings a bento with him! (he is just too shy!!!) Told him long time ago that he’ll have to get used to bringing bento when we live here! Hahhaa

.

.

Hubby requested lots of meat coz he said that will fill him up better. I gave him a big container of rice (not in the photo) too so that can fill him up till dinner time since he did not take any brekky before he left the house. Packed him a few pieces of nectarines for his breaks too just in case he gets hungry (he’s a big eater!).

That’s all for today and I hope you’ll have a happy celebration! πŸ˜€

Bento Fun #282 – Boy’s Day Bento

Tomorrow is the D-day! Packing is almost 90% done and we’ll be flying off to Lion City tomorrow. Gonna have a few hours of transit before our next flight. πŸ™‚ This is our first vacation for 2011 and also our very first trip tagging along hubby’s biz trip to a foreign land.

Since tomorrow is Wesak Day, it will be a public holiday here. Though Darrius’s kindy will have their mid-year exam this week, I have requested that he completes them before the trip so the teacher tested him all 4 papers last Friday! O.o Initially, I have wanted him to have just 2 papers last Friday and 2 papers today… oh well! He did quite ok though he can definitely do better if not because of the squeezedΒ time.

So, this morning I made my last bento before the school holiday which will start next weekend while we are still away. It is a little late for this theme but I was adamant to at least make one after wanting to make this theme for quite a while.

.

.

Baby was down with fever last weekend so hubby’s aunt popped by for a visit and brought the kids some milk buns which I’ve used for making the boy. I spread some mayo and stuck those nori strips for the hair. I also folded a Samurai hat using some origami paper. For details meaning of Boy’s Day or Children’s Day in Japan check it out here.

I used 2 chicken cocktails to make the carps. Too bad I can’t dye them in colors else they will look cuter as I am already running late. I added some broiled broccoli, some green seedless grapes with blueberries, some edamame skewers, cherry tomatoes and broiled carrot sakura.

Today is Teacher’s Day here but Darrius’s school is not celebrating so I told him to at least wish his class teacher a Happy Teacher’s Day when he reached his class this morning.

That’s all for today and I’m looking forward to tomorrow as I’ll be meeting up with some bento mamas in Lion City! πŸ˜‰

Bento Fun #242 – A Valentine’s Bento

Happy Valentine’s Day all!

So fast it is another V-Day! We don’t really celebrate since my hubby is not those hopeless romantic type! πŸ˜† In fact he will be going off for his exam in a while which is very important to him. I just hope he will pass with flying colors since he has been studying really hard for it and to retake means he has to spend another RM1K for it! So he has to pass no matter what!!!! πŸ˜›

And to commemorate the day, I made this simple Valentine’s bento for Darrius…

.

.

Made a cheese sammy using 3-grains bread which hubby bought from the hospital last weekend with white bread at the bottom. The muzzle also cut out from the 3-grains bread with a raisin nose. The ears are the chunky cocktail with cheese. Eyes are cheese with nori with filamen for the rosy cheeks. Made him 2 heart shape pocket sammies with chocolate filling and sprayed with some red color spray… I love the effects! πŸ˜€ The wordings are alpha-pasta.

There are some broccoli, cherry tomatoes, edamame skewers and mandarin oranges wedges too.

HAPPY VALENTINE’s Day

Bento Fun #237 – Happy Bunny New Year!

Initially I have no intention to make any bento since Darrius has party in his school. Then while I was preparing lunch, I thought I should start on my bunny project… since everyone are at it now! πŸ˜€

So, here is my first real bunny bento for the year…

.

.

I just made a simple bunny onigiri with some goodies we had for lunch today. I colored the rice for the ears but guessed they were not strong enough so color was not really showing… will color darker the next time. There are some teriyaki skewers at the back with lots of broiled broccoli, stawberries, cherry tomatoes and carrot. I have some steamed minced pork too but guess they were too messy to be put in the box so decided not to use them at the end.

.

.

Folded some origami bunnies for decoration last night and thought they are nice as deco for the bento too! πŸ˜€

And here is Darrius wishing everyone…

.

.

He made that piece of art in school… guess what he drew in that lantern? LONDON BRIDGE!!!! I asked him what has London Bridge got to do with Chinese New Year???? He said, teacher said can draw anything!!! His latest obsession is London Bridge… which reminded me that I still owe him a London Bridge bento! πŸ˜›

Here wishing everyone who celebrate the Lunar New Year a Happy and a Prosperous year with good health and lots of joy with family and friends!
